The Progressive Era "Acts"

3. Anti- Trust
Sherman Anti-Trust Act, 1890:
This Act was signed into law because the people tried to control the trusts through state legislation but they failed. It forbade combinations in restraint of trade, without any destinction between "good" trusts and "bad "trusts". It was used to curb labor unions or labor combinations that were deemed to be restraining trade.

Clayton Anti- Trust Act of 1914:
This Act lengthende the Sherman's list of business practices that wered deemed objectionable, including price discrimination and interlocking directorates. It also conferred benefits on labor. The Clayton Act sought to exempt labor and agricultural organizations from antitrust prosecution, while legalizing strikes and peaceful picketing.
